Paul Shaffer: Aykroyd

Story

On October 11, 1975 at 11:30 p.m., a wild group of young comedians and writers changed television forever. Discover what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live (1975). Matt Wood stars as John Belushi in Saturday Night, check out the rest of the cast and their real-life co-stars. Dan Aykroyd was the only original SNL cast member to read the script. As the show goes live, John Belushi is 39 seconds late at the door. In reality, it came right in.. Don Pardo: [rehearsing his lines] Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, Dan… Ike…[to Paul Shaffer] Don Pardo: How the hell do they say that?

Starred in Eddie Murphy, le roi noir d'Hollywood (2023)

The film opens with a quote from Lorne Michaels: "The show doesn’t go on because it’s ready, it goes on because it’s 11:30.". Ixoo “Chickenweed” Chawz Written by Don Cento and Martin Garner Performed by Don Cento and Martin Garner. This is the hardest review ever for me because I don’t quite know how to feel about this movie. If you didn’t grow up watching SNL or know nothing about the OG cast or how SNL got started, you are incredibly confused, lost, and bored. I guess my problem with this movie is that you have to know who everyone is since the beginning of SNL. Lots of name dropping, names and no back story, if you go in expecting a movie to explain it to you…it’s not and you’ll probably walk out. So this really narrows down the category of viewers quite a bit. I grew up on SNL (but in the Sandler, Farley, Spade, Farrell era).

However, most people would have no idea

If it wasn’t for my dad being obsessed with SNL from the old days and always on, I would have hated it. My husband grew up on MadTV and even though big names like Belushi, Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd were from the movies, he had no idea who else was. We had to come home and watch the first episode and I had to explain a lot of things he didn’t realize. Like the relationship with Lorne and his wife, and the relationship with Aykroyd there. I will say that the cast is INCREDIBLE, I laughed at some parts, although I think it could have been a bit funnier. Not at all inaccurate as some say. Most things were true, only a few things didn’t happen THAT night. The actors gave absolutely amazing performances and the 70’s vibe and filming style was great.

you are close to that age

It really felt like you were immersed. I was feeling a bit stressed, I don’t even drink and I thought “I need this, I feel like I just had a hard day at work”. I recommend watching the very first episode ever. go if you haven’t seen it in a while. They absolutely nail some scenes, which is amazing. Unfortunately, I think this movie is going to bomb, but they really did a bad job of making it watchable for anyone who is now considered a “boomer”. A lot of people in this category don’t watch movies in theaters much anymore, they’ve passed away, or they’re stuck in their Jesus mode, they’re offended by things that probably didn’t exist in 1975. Obviously, some people in this category will like it, but I think it may be very few.

I honestly think I would have been distracted watching it from home

You can enjoy researching from the beginning of SNL first and knowing what they looked like, but it’s a lot of work on the part of the viewers. I don’t recommend watching it in theaters, if you think you’re lost, you will be. My husband and I were the only ones in the theater, no one else, and I caught him scrolling through his phone a few times. I’ve never seen him do that in a movie, so I know he was bored. So I give it 10/10 for casting and acting and it captured the era beautifully.
