This series starts off so well and then sort of
When maple syrup producer Ruth Landry finds her livelihood under attack by greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the industry. Loosely based on the $18 million maple syrup heist from a Quebec warehouse in 2011-12; five people were sentenced to prison.
Because of that, it falls short – it leaves you hanging – and is stretched out too thin
falls apart. I didn’t realize this was “Season 1.” I was led to believe it was a complete story told in 6 parts.
I realize I should have soaked this review in syrupy jokes, but maples are always sad because they’re so cheesy
The cast and production design are great, but it’s like the original Twin Peaks: once the “big crime” is solved, the story is over. Trying to prolong the plot with unnecessary subplots becomes tiresome, no matter how much we enjoy spending time with these eccentric characters.
